About Cristina

My name is Cristina, but my friends call me Cris.

“Birth is not only about making babies.
Birth is about making mothers (parents) —strong, competent,
capable mothers (parents) who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
— Barbara Katz Rothman

I have had a lifelong commitment to education, health, and fitness. It started with a background in early childhood education, fitness, and yoga which blossomed into a passion for wellness and nutrition inspiring me to get a certification in holistic nutrition and my Doula certification. But my fascination with childbirth began long before college. I would watch my mother and aunts labor with our own family Doula. One of my mother’s eldest sisters was our family Doula. She would speak to them in a strong Spanish whisper. Guiding them to follow to their own bodies but hold control over the moment. It was magical.

Giving birth to my three children was an empowering and life altering experience which in turn gave birth to my interest in empowering people to birth in their own way. My work as a Doula has allowed me to bring my skills, passions and knowledge of the body to my work. I hope to encourage and instill in the birthing parent to trust in their bodies and their inner wisdom, while supporting and comforting them and their partners.

There is no right way to give birth. My highest priority as a birth Doula is to help each person have a positive and satisfying birth experience as that person defines it. I strive to help create a birthing experience in which each person feels safe, in control, respected, well supported and cared for, and which leaves you feeling confident in your abilities. I believe the importance of the confidence the birthing parent can gain from a positive birth experience cannot be overestimated, because even though parenting a newborn is one of the most joyful experiences a person will ever go through, most veteran parents express that it is also one of the most challenging. A happy, well supported, and empowered person enhances parent-baby bonding and provides an enduring foundation for a happy and healthy family. A parent will remember their birth experiences acutely for the rest of their life; I hope to help ensure that these memories fill them with confidence and remind them that they are Divine!

Having a Doula during birth releases tension for both parents and allows the parent birthing to find their most comfortable, natural and innate way of giving birth. Whether their birth plan includes an epidural in a hospital or an at-home water birth, I love to support in any way possible.
